For 100 years, Coalcliff SLSC has provided a caring and family-friendly atmosphere, emphasising surf skills and an enjoyment of the ocean rather than rigorous competition. This laid-back attitude has played a significant part in drawing new members and nippers to the club from an area that exceeds the boundaries of Coalcliff itself.

Coalcliff SLSC hosts regular ocean swim events and the annual Triple-Crown series, which is a series of events that determine the yearly Coalcliff Black Ironperson.
